Originating in Persia, this rectangular Malayer rug has a composition framed by several decorative bands. The dark blue central field carries a dense arrangement of floral and geometric motifs in red, light blue, ochre and ivory. A broad light blue border is filled with large red curving elements and enclosed by narrower patterned bands. Short pale fringes are visible along the ends, while the closely spaced design creates a measured, regular rhythm.
